interested in visiting Dunhuang's poplar forest but I'm having a hard time finding its location.
Do you have any information or can you perhaps send me its name in Chinese?

I think it is not a scenic area because I can't find the name either. You can go to Mogao Grottoes and there is a large poplar forest behind it.

As I know, at local Shazhou Market Tourist Service Center, two buses are scheduled to Yadan every day and they leave at 07:00 and 14:00. I was told that the bus requires reservation ahead of time. If you miss that, the only way is to rent a car and it costs around CNY400.

It is not so expensive. It takes about 80 to 100RMB per time for riding one time.

Yes, it is possible to visit the two sites on the same day and the best and most convenient way is to have a rental car. It costs CNY350-500.
